Short answer: Bovada paid us. We deposited $100 in Bitcoin, bet it, and asked for the $95 that was left. Forty-five minutes later Bovada asked for documents; the next morning it approved the withdrawal; 35 minutes after that the Bitcoin was in our wallet. 24 hours 5 minutes, request to wallet.
That's one withdrawal, and it's the honest limit of what we can tell you from experience. The rest of this review is what Bovada's own terms and help pages say — read line by line, quoted where it matters — and what they mean for your money.

The verdict
| Does it pay? | Yes, in our test: 24 h 05 m for a $95 Bitcoin withdrawal, including a document request |
| Licence | Offshore. Bovada states it is "licensed and regulated by the Union of the Comoros and the Central Reserve Authority of Western Sahara." No US state licence. |
| Available in | Most of the US, but not 20 jurisdictions — see the list below |
| Best at | Sports, casino, poker and racebook behind one login and one balance |
| Watch out for | Card deposit fees after the first, document checks at withdrawal, a 24-hour card lockout after three failed attempts, and Bitcoin as a slow route out on Bovada's own stated times |
| Welcome bonus | 75% up to $750 by crypto, 50% up to $250 by card — both 5× on deposit plus bonus. Worth about $33 and $14 per $100 deposited after rollover. |
What we did, and what happened
The same round trip we run at every book we rank: deposit about $100, bet it through once with no bonus, withdraw what's left, and write down the time of every step.
| Step | Time | Elapsed |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit sent — $100 in Bitcoin | Friday 21:10 CT | — |
| On the Bovada balance | 21:42 | 32 min |
| Two $50 singles at 1.90, one won | — | balance $95 |
| Withdrawal requested — $95 to Bitcoin | Sunday 10:00 | — |
| Bovada asks for documents | 10:45 | 45 min |
| We send them | 12:15 | 1 h 30 m later |
| Withdrawal approved | Monday 09:30 | 23 h 30 m after the request |
| Bitcoin in our wallet | 10:05 | 24 h 05 m in total |
Three things stand out.
The review was almost the whole wait. 23½ of the 24 hours were Bovada's internal review. The Bitcoin itself took 35 minutes once approved. Bovada says withdrawals "take approximately 24-48 hours to be reviewed", and ours came in at the fast end of that.
The document request came at withdrawal, not at signup. That's exactly what Bovada's help centre warns: "For verification purposes, per our Terms of Service, you may be required to submit documentation prior to a payment being processed." Depositing, betting and requesting a payout all worked before anyone asked who we were. If you want your first withdrawal to move quickly, get verification done before you need the money.
Bitcoin was faster than Bovada says it will be. Bovada's stated time for Bitcoin after approval is up to 24 hours; ours took 35 minutes. One fast result doesn't make that a promise, so plan around the stated figure, not ours.
The screen showed no Bovada fee on the payout. The Bitcoin that arrived was worth slightly less than $95, because the network takes its cut and the book converts dollars to coins at its own rate at the moment of payout.
Is Bovada legit?
It depends what you mean by legit, and it's worth separating the two meanings, because most pages answering this question blur them.
Does it pay out?+
In our test, yes, in about a day. Bovada has been taking US customers since 2011, which in this market is a long record, and it's the largest brand in a group that also runs Ignition and Cafe Casino on the same cashier.
Is it licensed and regulated the way a US sportsbook is?+
No. Bovada's own site states that it is "licensed and regulated by the Union of the Comoros and the Central Reserve Authority of Western Sahara." It holds no licence from any US state. That has one practical consequence that matters more than any other in this review: if a withdrawal goes wrong, there is no US regulator to complain to. A licensed book in New Jersey answers to the Division of Gaming Enforcement. Bovada answers to its own terms.
Its parent company appears in the record, too: Louisiana's cease-and-desist notice this August was addressed to Harp Media B.V.
So: legit in the sense that it pays and has for a long time; not legit in the sense of being inside the US regulatory system. Whether that trade is acceptable is your call. What the law actually says about betting offshore →
Where Bovada is available
This is the question to settle before any other, because Bovada has been leaving states during 2026 as regulators send cease-and-desist letters — Kansas in July, Louisiana in August, Pennsylvania at the end of August.
Bovada's own help page lists the places it won't accept customers from:
Arizona · Colorado · Connecticut · Delaware · District of Columbia · Kansas · Louisiana · Maryland · Massachusetts · Michigan · Nevada · New Hampshire · New Jersey · New York · Ohio · Pennsylvania · Rhode Island · Tennessee · Vermont · West Virginia
That's 20 jurisdictions. If you've seen "21" on other sites, here's why: Bovada's own list has 21 entries, but the District of Columbia appears twice — once as "District of Colombia" and once as "Washington DC." Count unique places and you get 20.
Two notes on what isn't on that list:
- Washington State isn't restricted by Bovada, but Washington is the state whose own law most clearly reaches the player: under RCW 9.46.240, online gambling is a class C felony. Bovada accepting you doesn't make it legal where you live. Details →
- Texas, Florida, California and Illinois aren't restricted. Our Bovada test was run from Texas.
If Bovada has just closed your state, these are the alternatives we'd look at.
How long Bovada withdrawals take
This is the other question behind "is Bovada legit", so here it is in full.
Every withdrawal goes through two stages. First Bovada reviews it — the operator's own figure is 24 to 48 hours. Only after approval does the payment method's own clock start. A page that tells you "Bitcoin in 24 hours" has usually left out the first stage.
| Method | Minimum withdrawal | Time after approval (Bovada's figure) | Weekly ceiling |
|---|---|---|---|
| Litecoin | $10 | up to 1 hour | $180,000 |
| Bitcoin Cash | $10 | up to 1 hour | $2,500 |
| Ethereum / USDT | $50 | up to 1 hour | $2,500 |
| Bitcoin | $75 | up to 24 hours | $90,000 |
| Cheque | $250 | 10–15 business days | once per 7 days |
| Wire | $1,500 | 10–15 business days | once per 30 days |
On Bovada's stated times, Bitcoin is the slowest crypto route out, not the fastest, and it has the highest minimum. Litecoin has a $10 minimum, the largest weekly ceiling, and a stated time of up to an hour. Our own Bitcoin arrived in 35 minutes, so the gap may be smaller in practice than on paper — but one withdrawal isn't enough to say so. How Bovada's crypto cashier compares with BetOnline, BetUS and MyBookie →
Look at the ceilings too. $180,000 a week by Litecoin; $2,500 a week by Ethereum or USDT. Same account, same balance — a 72-fold difference decided by which coin you pick.
Why is my Bovada withdrawal "in review"?
Because every withdrawal is. Bovada reviews each request before paying, and states that the review takes about 24–48 hours. Two things can extend it:
- A document request. Ours came 45 minutes after we asked for the money. The clock doesn't move while Bovada waits for you, so send documents quickly. At Ignition, which shares Bovada's cashier, documents are "reviewed in approximately 24-48 hours, sometimes less" — and that runs on top of the withdrawal review, not inside it.
- An unplayed deposit. Your deposit has to be wagered before it can be withdrawn. Asking for a payout on money you haven't bet can get the withdrawal cancelled. We bet our $100 once through before asking.
Deposits
| Method | Minimum | Maximum | Bovada fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visa / Mastercard | $20 | $1,500 | first deposit free, then 15.9% or more |
| MatchPay (person-to-person) | $10 | $2,000 | none |
| Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, USDT | see cashier | $5,000 | none |
The card fee is the one to plan around. Your first card deposit carries no Bovada fee. After that, 15.9% or more — $79.50 on a $500 deposit, before you've placed a bet. Crypto and MatchPay carry no Bovada fee.
Card deposits fail more often than they should. Bovada says so itself: card deposits "ARE NOT 100% GUARANTEED. This may be due to restrictions placed on the card itself and are not imposed by Bovada." US banks decline many offshore gambling transactions. And be careful about retrying: after three failed attempts with the same card, Bovada locks that card out for 24 hours and states it can't lift the restriction. If a card fails twice, switch method.
The sportsbook itself
Bovada is a recreational book, and it's built well for that.
What you can bet on. Singles; parlays of 2 to 16 legs; same-game parlays of up to 10 selections from one game, priced on how the selections relate to each other; teasers; round robins; futures; props, including a Prop Builder for making your own player props; point buying; and virtual sports. If a market isn't listed, you can ask for it through Bovada's #WhatsYaWager bet-request feature.
Parlay rules worth knowing. A push doesn't kill a parlay — it shortens it: "A four-team parlay with two ties reduces to a two-team parlay." You can't combine correlated lines — the same team's spread and moneyline from the same game, or a first-half line with the full-game line of the same type.
Live betting. Available across the main sports, with one rule to understand: "All lines determined to have been available past post will be graded 'No Action'." If a live bet is placed after the outcome is known — including because a TV feed is delayed — Bovada can void it. That's standard in the industry, but it's worth knowing before you bet off a stream.
Cash out. Available on "Singles and Parlays" — not on everything. It isn't offered where there's no equivalent live line, and never on parlays that include a quarter-ball line. Bovada's help page describes full cash out only. One clause matters if you've taken a bonus: "Should you choose the Cash Out option - the lesser of the amount risked or won will NOT contribute to the completion of your rollover requirement." A cashed-out bet doesn't count towards clearing a bonus.
Limits
| Minimum bet | $0.50 |
| Maximum bet | Varies by sport, event and market — the Bet Max button in the bet slip shows it |
| Maximum payout | $1,000,000 per sportsbook payout; $50,000 on the racebook |
| Higher limits | Can be requested for eligible events, at the Book Managers' discretion |
Bovada also reserves "the right to refuse or limit any bet and to restrict betting on any event at any time without advance notice." Every offshore book has a clause like this, and every one uses it on winning bettors eventually. We haven't measured when Bovada does, so we won't guess — if you bet sharp, read our notes on limits across books.
What we haven't checked yet: line pricing. We haven't compared Bovada's prices against other books on the same fixtures. That comparison matters more than the welcome bonus for anyone betting regularly — a few cents of vig per bet adds up over a season — and it's on our list.
The welcome bonus, in real money
Bovada runs two sports welcome offers, depending on how you deposit.
| Offer | Match | Rollover | Worth per $100 deposited |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crypto | 75% up to $750 (deposit up to $1,000 counts) | 5× on deposit + bonus | about $33 |
| Card | 50% up to $250 (deposit up to $500 counts) | 5× on deposit + bonus | about $14 |
Both are 5× on deposit plus bonus, which Bovada's own promotion page states: "Rollover is 5X Sports/5X Horses/30X Casino on both the initial deposit and the bonus amount." (The 30× is how casino bets count while you're clearing a sports bonus. It isn't the multiple on Bovada's casino welcome offer, which is 25×.)
The "worth" figures account for one Bovada rule that most comparison tables ignore. On winning bets, rollover credit "will be determined by the lesser of your risk or win amount." At standard −110 pricing you risk $110 to win $100, so a winning bet only earns $100 of progress. That nudges the real cost of clearing up by just under 5%. Betting plus-money underdogs avoids the penalty, because there your stake is the lesser number.
Take the crypto offer if you're depositing by crypto anyway: it's comfortably positive, because 5× sits well below the break-even point for a 75% match. The code BTCSWB750 appears on Bovada's own content hub, but the offer is normally claimed from the Rewards area of your account rather than by typing a code. Full maths and every current code →
Casino, poker and racebook
This is Bovada's genuine advantage, and no book on our list matches it: one account, one balance, four products. Sportsbook, casino, a poker room with real US player traffic, and a racebook. Move money between them without a second deposit, second KYC or second fee.
The casino has its own welcome package and its own terms. Bovada casino review →
What can go wrong
The top results for "is Bovada legit" include videos titled DO NOT PLAY HERE. We haven't had a bad experience, but one good withdrawal doesn't cancel other people's bad ones. Here is what Bovada's own terms tell you can go wrong, which is more useful than anyone's anecdote:
- Your state gets closed. It has happened to three states this year. Withdraw your balance promptly if your state appears on the restricted list.
- Your withdrawal waits on documents. It happened to us. Verify early.
- A card deposit fails, or locks you out. Three failures with one card means 24 hours locked out.
- Your bets get limited. Bovada can "refuse or limit any bet" without notice.
- Your live bet gets voided if it was placed after the outcome was known.
- There's no regulator to escalate to if something goes wrong.
None of these is unique to Bovada. All of them are real.

Use it if you're in a state it accepts, you want sports and casino or poker in one place, and you'll deposit by crypto or MatchPay rather than card.

Frequently asked questions
Is Bovada legit?+
It paid us: $95 in Bitcoin, 24 hours 5 minutes from request to wallet, with a document check in the middle. It has served US customers since 2011. It is licensed offshore — its own site names the Union of the Comoros and the Central Reserve Authority of Western Sahara — and holds no US state licence, so there is no US regulator to complain to if something goes wrong.
Is Bovada legal in my state?+
Bovada doesn't accept customers from 20 jurisdictions: Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont and West Virginia. Being accepted isn't the same as being legal — Washington State isn't on the list, but its law makes online gambling a felony for the player. More →
How long does a Bovada withdrawal review take?+
Bovada states about 24–48 hours for the review, before the payment method's own time. Ours took 23 hours 30 minutes, including a document request 45 minutes in, and the Bitcoin arrived 35 minutes after approval.
Why is my Bovada withdrawal in review?+
Every Bovada withdrawal is reviewed before payment. The review can take longer if Bovada has asked for documents and is waiting for them, or if the deposit hasn't been wagered yet.
What's the fastest way to withdraw from Bovada?+
On Bovada's stated times, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum or USDT — up to an hour after approval — rather than Bitcoin, which is stated at up to 24 hours. Litecoin has the lowest minimum ($10) and the highest weekly ceiling ($180,000).
What is the maximum payout at Bovada?+
$1,000,000 on the sportsbook and $50,000 on the racebook, per Bovada's own limits page.

Does Bovada limit winning players?+
Its rules reserve the right to refuse or limit any bet without notice. We haven't measured when or how it does, and won't guess.
